Police Regional Office-9 Director Chief Supt. Napoleon R. Estilles yesterday called on all mayors and other local government unit leaders in the region to be security conscious and not to risk their lives going around without security escorts.

Estilles made the call after the abduction of Mayor Jeffrey Lim of Salug, Zamboanga del Norte last Monday night,  April 2, 2012.

Lim was seized by gunmen while he was on his way home after playing badminton.

“My call to all local leaders in the region. They should be security conscious and always be accompanied by security escorts. They should always have communication with their staff, family, the police and military because they are elected officials. They should not put their lives at risk even though they don’t have any threat or target from lawless groups. They should have always a security,”Estilles emphasized.

In a press conference last Wednesday at City Hall presided by Mayor Celso Lobregat. Estilles told newsmen that there is no group  yet claiming responsibility for the abduction of Lim nor demand for ransom.

The Provincial Crisis Committee Management has already  been activated last Monday to tackle the kidnapping.

Estilles personally went to  the area where Mayor Lim was abducted.

“I already sent troopers of the 9th Regional Public Safety Battalion for augmentation of  security and police forces to locate and rescue Mayor Lim. We are doing our best with the police and military to rescue Mayor Uy,” Estilles said.

Estilles also called on  the people in the region to help the police and military combat and fight lawlessness and criminalities. — Allen Abastillas
