Along with EO 203, Malacanang in 1989 also issued Presidential Proclamation No. 466, s. 1989 entitled “Declaring the period of April 5-11 of every year as Philippine Veterans Week,” enjoining all government agencies including government-owned and controlled corporations, non-government organizations, private associations and institutions, and individuals to assist, cooperate, and participate in the historic commemoration.

The theme of this year’s celebration is “Beterano: Tagasulong ng Tunay at Walang Humpay na Pagbabago. “

The commemoration aims to promote, preserve, and memorialize the principles, ideals and deeds of the war veterans as a means to enhance patriotism and love of country, especially among the youth.

Expected to attend the ceremony today are Representatives Beng Climaco and Erbie Fabian, Western Mindanao Command Chief M/Gen. Noel Coballes and other military or AFP commanders based in the city.

The hoisting of the flag will be led by Mayor Lobregat together with the top military officials and assisted by the Veterans District officials. The Panunumpa sa Watawat will be led by Dr. Mario Arriola, City Veterinarian and son of World War II veteran.
