Some 100 New People’s Army rebels attacked the police Station in the municipality of Tigbao, Zamboanga del Sur last Monday night and retreated bringing the firearms of policemen.

Police Regional Office-9 Director Chief Supt. Napoleon Estilles disclosed that the NPA rebels arrived at the Tigbao municipal police station around 7 p.m.and destroyed everything inside, including tables, computers and other office equipment.

The raiders fled with seven M16 rifles, one M14 rifle and a 9mm pistol belonging to Tigbao policemen. They also brought along with them PO2 Faisal Juhali, the policeman on duty in the station.

It was learned that the rebels escaped towards Lakewood municipality bringing Juhali and the fireaarms.

Troopers of the Provincial Public Safety Company, Regional Public Safety Battalion of the Philippine National Police and the 53rd Infantry Battalion have mounted hot pursuit operations against the communist rebels and possibly  rescue Juhali.

Western Mindanao Command chief Maj. Gen. Noel Coballes downplayed the latest NPA raid saying it is not a cause for alarm.
He added that it was a case of simple robbery with kidnapping.

“There is nothing daring with what they have accomplished. We shall pursue them like common criminals and  support the PNP operations to ensure the safe release of Juhali who was used as a human  shield to cover their withdrawals,” Coballes said.

A police report further said that the Tigbao municipal police station have only 23 police personnel and during the attack there were only three policemen including Juhali  on duty as their colleagues were out making follow-up on a vehicular accident that took place in their  area of jurisdiction.
