Philippine National Police (PNP) Director-General Nicanor Bartolome ordered on Tuesday the immediate relief of the chief of the Tigbao town police and the director of the Zamboanga del Sur provincial police office in the wake of the New People’s Army (NPA) raid on the police station of that town Monday night.

The attack resulted in the seizure of an M-16 automatic rifle and two 9mm pistols from the police station and the abduction of Police Officer 2 Juhali Faisal.

Ordered relieved were Tigbao police station chief Senior Insp. Heines Legaspi and Zamboanga Del Sur police director Sr. Supt. Jose Bayani Gucela.

Bartolome flew to Zamboanga del Sur yesterday to personally look into the incident and to determine whether there are any lapses in security in the
locality.

Earlier reports said an estimated 40 NPA rebels attacked the police station in Tigbao at around 7 p.m. Monday, carting away an M-16 automatic rifle and two 9mm pistols.
