The 2012 Zamboanga City Kite Flying Competition was successfully concluded yesterday at Paseo del Mar, featuring a series of traditional games dubbed Huego de Antes.

As one of the main highlights of the summer excitements in the city, the kite-flying competition took another successful run with 14 lucky enthusiasts emerging as winners of the major and special awards.

For the Flat or Two-Dimensional Category, Glen Saavedra took home P5, 000 as 1st Placer for his kite design entitled Curacha. Jason Constantino was declared 2nd Placer with P3, 000 cash prize for his entry The Dragonfly while Jonel Toribio landed the 3rd spot with P2, 000 cash money for his bird-inspired entry dubbed The Owl.

Special awards were also given to Jason Constantino for the Smallest Flying Kite and Biggest Flying Kite, Glen Saavedra for the Most Amazing Flying Kite or Bulador del Pueblo and Jonel Toribio whose creation was declared as the Best Design Entry-all under flat category.

Under the Figure or Three-Dimensional Category, Revnor Bello snatched the first and the second spots for his entries dubbed Mariposa and Diamond,
respectively. He took home a total prize of P8, 000 for the back-to-back victory.

The third place was awarded to Nestor Delgado for his entry entitled Armstrong with P2, 000 cash prize.

The special awards under the Three-Dimensional Category went to Glen Saavedra for the Smalles Flying Kite, Revnor Bello for the Biggest Flying Kite and the Most Amazing Flying Kite ort Bulador del Pueblo and Nestor Delgado for the Best Design entry.

All winners of the special awards were given cash prizes and special freebies.

The competition of aerial creativity and design was made possible by the City Government of Zamboanga in cooperation with the Department of Tourism 9, JCI Zamboanga, JCI Zamboangueña, Philippine National Red Cross, Boy Scout of the Philippines Zamboanga City Council, San Miguel Corporation, Coca-Cola Bottlers Philippines, Inc., Globe Telecom, Smart Communications, Inc., and Radio Mindanao Network.

To make the event more sizzling with fun and action; several traditional games were included for kids and adults to enjoy like the Tumbahan Lata, Lagasan de Pies-Pies (Kadang-Kadang), Tubigan, Bagul, Sack Race, Gerry Base, Palo Sebo, Domino and Dodging ball.

Present during the exciting affair despite the summer heat were DOT Regional Director Mary June Buganta, Councilor Gerky Valesco and Boy Scout of the Philippine Zamboanga City Council Executive Chairman Arthur Griño. — Richard Aliangan
