A fisherman was killed while his son was injured when their pumpboat was accidentally hit by a watercraft carrying US soldiers off Mutamad, Basilan, Wednesday night.

Akba Juhurin, married, sustained serious injuries in the body and died on the spot.

Juhurin’s 26-year-old son was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Report disclosed that Juhurin and his son were on their way home after selling their fish catch in Isabela City when the sea mishap took place.

It was learned that a seacraft of the US forces accidentally bumped them off Barangay Baluk Baluk,  Basilan around 7 p.m.

Juhurin’s body was taken to the Western Mindanao Command while the Maritime police have started an investigation.

It was learned that the victims’ relatives were open to possible amicable settlement with the US forces.

The incident happened as militant groups staged a rally yesterday outside the headquarters of the military’s Western Mindanao Command in protest against the holding of US-Philippines joint military exercises (Balikatan 2012).

The protesters led by Satur Ocampo lambasted the US military of having a hidden agenda in the holding of the joint military exercises in the Philippines.
During the rally, they burned the flag of the United States. – Dan Toribio Jr.
