A two-day golf tournament reels off today at the Zamboanga Golf and Country Club, the oldest golf course in the country.

The two-day event dubbed as “Eric Laviña Cup” is sponsored by the Zamboanga City-based Perlas Tee Golf Foundation.

Raymond Padayhag, one of the new batch of the Perlas Tee Golf Foundation leaders, said that several local and foreign golfers will see action in the two-day tournament.

Aside from Padayhag, the Perlas Tee Golf Foundation, is also headed by Joseph Dy and Eric Chiong.

The foundation envisions to revive the JUNGOLF program of Zamboanga Golf and Country Club, a program aimed at developing interest in the sport among pre-teens and teeners, and paving the way for their greater involvement in the game.

In it larger mission, the Perlas Tee Golf Foundation wishes to help promote golfing in this city as a veritable tourism come-on, and play host to different types of invitation gold tournaments, as done by the Coral Tee of Cebu, Durian Tee of Davao and the Mango Tee of Manila and others.

The two-day event is fully supported by the Zamboanga Golf and Country Club headed by Atty. Quirino Esguerra, Jr. — Bong Garcia
