Mayor Celso Lobregat yesterday hailed the groundbreaking of the Zamboanga City Water District’s P25.7 million water booster station in Talon-Talon, but emphasized that the            success of the project would depend on the water consumers by paying their bills religiously.

“And the only way to achieve that is for the barangay officials to set an example by paying for every service rendered,” Lobregat said, citing that he himself pays for services that he subscribes including watching the musically gyrating dancing fountain at the Paseo del Mar.

“I myself pay for every service, so all of us especially barangay officials should set the example to sustain the project,” the mayor pointed out, as he commended the ZCWD headed by Board Chair Dr. Milagros Fernandez and general manager Chito Vasquez for coming up with the booster station project in Talon-Talon.

The facility, which is expected to be completed in 160 days, will improve the water pressure in Talon-Talon and the nearby barangays of Tugbungan, Mampang and Arena Blanco, where people have been suffering from low water pressure to no water at all for years now.

Lobregat said while the ZCWD and the city government are exerting best efforts to provide the necessary water facility to all areas, the support and cooperation of the residents is also a must. He stressed people’s support and cooperation will spell the success of the booster station project as well as all other projects and programs.

Dr. Fernandez and ZCWD Assistant GM Engr. Alejo Rojas in their individual messages cited the Lobregat administration for its support to all undertakings of the water firm. In numerous projects, the city government partners with the ZCWD in order to ensure efficient water supply in the far flung areas of the

Meanwhile, officials of the beneficiary-barangays have expressed gratitude to the ZCWD as well as the city government for the implementation of the project saying it will greatly alleviate the plight of their constituents in terms of water needs.

Barangay chairmen Munib Yusop of Talon-talon, Pedro Estrada of Mampang, Mujib Abdulhussin of Arena Blanco and Jun Graciano (represented by kagawad Roderick Puno) of Tugbungan were one in saying that the project is a welcome development and is very well received by their individual barangays because of the benefits that they will derive from it.
