A workers’ forum on power is slated today starting at eight o’clock at Cecile’s Catering in Tumaga, this city, sponsored by the Philippine Integrated Industries Labor Union-Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (PIILA-TUCP) in coordination with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

Among the resource persons are representatives from DOLE, Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (Zamcelco), Department of Energy (Mindanao), San Ramon Power, Incorporated, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and the city government of Zamboanga.

Labor leader Jose Suan said that the objective of the forum is to give the workers of Zamboanga a clear understanding of the power supply in Mindanao and its effects on business and employment in Zamboanga city.

Suan said the end result of the forum is to draw up a plan of action and measures to remedy the power crisis in Mindanao.

He said that more than 700 workers now employed with the various canning factories and light industries are expected to attend the forum “so that they may be enlightened on the lingering power crisis in Mindanao.”— BJ
