The Police Regional Office-9 has recovered and seized a total of 71 loose firearms from illegal possessors from January to March, this year.

PNP Regional Intelligence  Chief  Sr. Supt. Abraham C. Rojas reported to Police Regional Director Chief Supt. Napoleon R. Estilles that the Zamboanga City Police Office has recovered a total of 17 firearms, the Zamboanga del Norte Police Provincial Office a total of 20,  Zamboanga Sibugay — 17 and Zamboanga del Sur — 17.

Rojas said the confiscation of loose firearms were made through checkpoint operations, Oplan Bakal, Oplan Sita, anti-riding in tandem operations and service warrants.

He added that for the period of April 12 -18 2012, only ZDNPPO, ZDSPPO, ZCPO and ZSPPO that were able to confiscate seven loose firearms.

Chief Supt. Estilles also commended Ipil Police Station commander Chief Insp. Ariel Huesca for confiscating three loose firearms early this week. Seized by Huesca’s men were one M16 rifle with ammunition and magazines, one  12 gauge shotgun with six rounds of ammunition and one 45 caliber pistol. — Allen Abastillas
