A birthday celebration ended in a bloody affair after an Army Lieutenant was gunned down by his two subordinates inside the barangay hall in Barangay Poblacion, San Miguel Municipality, Zamboanga del Sur, last Monday afternoon.

Killed was 1Lt. Orlando Galutera of the 35th Infantry Battalion. He succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.

The suspects were also identified as Cpl. Rey Galarpe, and Cpl. Rolando Serencio of the same battalion. They were still at large as of press time.

Police said the shooting incident was triggered by a simple misunderstanding as the three soldiers were all under the influence of liquo.

Galutera was having a drinking spree inside the barangay hall with Serencio and Galarpe who was celebrating his birthday, during which a heated argument ensued between Galutera and Galarpe.

Galarpe was angered by Galutera’s order telling him to stop the drinking session. He took an armalite rifle and pointed it at the Army Lieutenant. He was however disarmed by Galutera which angered Serencio, who took his M16 rifle and shot Galutera several times.

Galarpe and Serencio escaped after the shooting bringing one M14 and three M16 rifles belonging to the Armed Forces of the Phillippines.
