In celebration of the 91st birthday of the late Mayor Maria Clara “Ma’am Caling” Lobregat yesterday, the city government gifted the barangays with 4x4 vehicles as revealed by Mayor Celso Lobregat in his state of the city report a year ago.

A total of 14 barangays compose the first batch of recipients of the vehicles however, only 7 vehicles have initially arrived in time for the initial distribution yesterday. The 7 recipients included Taluksangay, Sibulao, Tolosa, Tagasilay, Mampang, Mangusu and Lansones.

The other 7 barangays which will receive their vehicles in the next few days are Vitali, Licomo, Tictapul, Tigbalabag, Boalan, Culianan and Dulian-Upper Bungiao.

Mayor Celso Lobregat said all 90 mainland barangays will receive similar 4x4 vehicles each while the 8 island barangays will receive a multicab and pumpboat each. These transportation facilities are intended to improve mobility and ultimately accelerate public service in the barangays.

Each 4x4 vehicle costs P997, 500 while each multicab costs P290,000. The pumpboats cost P150, 000 each. Funding for the purchase of the transportation facilities is taken from the 2011 and 2012 budgets.

Mayor Lobregat has emphasized that the infrastructure projects including the transportation facilities and other services being given to the barangays are meant to help improve the delivery of services to the constituents.

He vowed to continue with the implementation of the projects in fulfilment of his administration’s thrust to bring about more progress and development to the city of Zamboanga.
