City Council cites Fabian on sport tourism efforts PDF Print E-mail

The City Council passed yesterday a resolution commending the Blue Stallion Promotions of Congressman Erbie A. Fabian for staging a world-class boxing event in the city last Fiesta Pilar, which was described as the right move in promoting Zamboanga through sport tourism.

District 1 Councilor Jaime Cabato authored the resolution that acknowledges with gratitude the efforts of Rep. Fabian through the Blue Stallion Promotions in promoting the city throught sport tourism.

The resolution was jointly and severally approved by the august body.

Cabato said the resolution is also a statement of hope that the congressman may be able to come up with more other boxing events that would feature fighters from Thailand, South Africa, China and South Korea.

“It is only but appropriate for us in the City Council, as representatives of the people of Zamboanga, to acknowledge the efforts of this man, who brought the name of the city into the world map through boxing,” Cabato said.

The councilor said that in his observation, the people were re very much appreciative of the efforts made by Congressman Fabian in staging the world class boxing fight -- featuring two-time champion Gerry Peñalosa against a Thailand pug.

"Possibly, just like everywhere, I think the people of Zamboanga would like to see Mexicans fight in the city and hopefully Cong. Fabian will move towards this direction," Cabato said.

For his part, Rep. Fabian thanked the Council and said he will continue to bring world-class sport events in the city,  not only boxing, but also other competitions that would be of interest to the public.

The solon who recently attended the World Boxing Council (WBC) Convention in Cancun, Mexico met with WBC President Jose Sulaiman, Top Rank Founder & CEO Robert “Bob” Arum, and champion of eight divisions, Congressman Manny Pacquiao.

Fabian, a sports buff, has been sponsoring various sports activities including boxing, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, soccer, table tennis, golf, billiard and darts.
