House Deputy Speaker for Mindanao and District 1 Rep.  Beng Climaco has called on women lawmakers nationally and internationally advance advocacies that are close to their hearts specifically gender equality.

Cong. Climaco represented the country’s women leaders in the United Nations Development Program or UNDP’s Convention on Women Equality held in Ulaanbataar, Mongolia recently where she pushed for gender equality on policy-making.

The lady solon said by advancing advocacies close to their hearts, women policy makers can clearly direct their actions. For her part, she said, it is children and youth, family and education.

Since she joined government service—first as councilor, later a vice mayor and now as member of the House of Representatives—Cong. Climaco has continuously prioritized gender equality in her agenda. These included the sponsorship of bills which have become laws on children and women protection as well as strengthening of families and improvement of quality of education.

The Mongolia conference highlighted the role of women in their respective nations, especially those that are into policy-making or legislation.

“I am grateful that the UNDP nominated me, as this would likewise further my capacity in legislation”, Cong. Climaco added. — Marvin Segura
