District 2 Rep. Erbie A Fabian will hold close consultations with various sectors of Zamboanga City on his plans for 2013 in response to a reported strong clamor for him to continue on his political career in the service of the people.

In a press conference held at his office yesterday, Congressman Fabian said he was heartened by public response to his earlier statement signifying a strong intent to retire from active public service after his term ends.

Following a whirlwind weekend where close friend and party mate former Zamboanga del Nort congressman Romeo Jalosjos announcing plans to run for mayor in this city, Fabian disclosed that he has not yet made up his mind and is not closing the possibility of him seeking an elective post in the midterm poll next year.

Fabian said a lot will hinge on his decision to run, among them is the plan to coalesce with Mayor Celso Lobregat and House Deputy Speaker and District 1 Rep. Beng Climaco-Salazar. Their triumvirate triumphed in the last polls.

Fabian said he is open to sitting down with the mayor and Rep. Climaco-Salazar if only to preserve political unity in the city’s political landscape.

He added the partnership that evolved has been productive and he is most comfortable with, explaining his relationship with the mayor and Rep. Climaco-Salazar.

Many are clamoring for the trio to join forces anew and continue with the progressive work already achieved in the city which resulted in rapid development and growth, as the three worked hand in hand the past few years.

Fabian disclosed that there are other matters crucial to his decision making beside this and he will make up his mind on or before October 5 this year, the Comelec deadline for the filing of certificates of candidacy.

The solon said politically he could not wish for more as he was blessed having been given the opportunity to serve the people here in various capacities starting as a three term councilor, vice mayor, mayor when then Mayor Maria Clara Lobregat passed away while serving as mayor of the city and now as a three term congressman serving out his final term as a senior member of the lower house.

The recent outpouring of support from the people especially in the barangays, has moved him to possibly reconsider his plans for 2013.

He said he has lot of productive years in him, that he is in the pink of health, and many more unfulfilled plans to make Zamboanga City a better place.

He thanked the people for their gracious support all these years for keeping him in public service for an uninterrupted 20 years of serving the people and the city he so dearly loves.

The solon, an avid sportsman and patron, disclosed a lot can still be done and he will re-think his decision after these series of consultations he planned out in the next few months.

Fabian said the consultations will include religious leaders, barangay ward leaders and ordinary folks.
