Members of the Rural Improvement Club (RIC) citywide will be recipients of the free hands-on Agri-business & Organic Farming Trainings which will start tomorrow, May 3  up to September 21, 2012.

Said trainings are being sponsored by the city government through the City Agriculture Office headed by City Agriculturist Diosdado Palacat in close coordination with the Gender and Development (GAD) chaired by Councilor Lilia Nuño and the City Human Resources Management Office headed by Erlina Sanchez.

In the past years, the trainings were conducted in renowned hotels in the city. This is the second time, wherein the trainings will be held in their respective barangays to be able to serve more members and for their accessibility.

City RIC Coordinator Bella Esperancilla of the City Agriculture Office said the Rural Improvement Club (RIC) is a nationwide organization and has been in existence for more or less 50 years in Zamboanga City.

Esperancilla disclosed that the RIC is privileged to have the support and active involvement of Councilor Nuño, also elected City and Regional RIC President.
According to City Agriculturist Palacat, these livelihood skills trainings are open to all members of the RIC. He is encouraging the members to grab this opportunity since these can lead them to establish small-scale agri-business to help supplement the financial needs of their family.

For the present year, the livelihood skills trainings offered with their respective schedules are Meat Processing and Preservation on May 3-4 at Holy Rosary Training Center at Pasobolong and May 10-11 at Victoria Agricultural Field Office; Fish Processing and Preservation on May 24-25 at Vitali Vocational School;  Cassava Processing on June 14-15 at Lubigan Barangay Hall; Handicraft Training on June 28-29 at Tumaga Field Office; Cosmetology and Wellness on July 12-13 at Ayala Gym; Solid Waste Management and Recycling on August 2-3 at Tumaga Agricultural Field Office, August 9-10 at Ayala Gym, August 16-17 at Culianan Barangay Hall, September 6-7 at Victoria Barangay Hall, September 13-14 at Curuan Agricultural Field Office and on September 20-21 at Vitali Vocational School.
