Distribution of 4x4 pick up vehicles to the different barangays continues in a bid to help improve the delivery of service to constituents.

Barangays Dulian-Upper Bungiao, Boalan and Culianan are the latest recipients of the vehicles acquired in line with the city government’s community, environment, livelihood, security and order program.

Mayor Celso Lobregat together and Vice Mayor Cesar Iturralde and Councilors Nonong Guingona, Lilia Nuno, Percival Ramos, Eddie Saavedra, Rey Candido, VP Elago, Rudy Lim and Rogelio Valesco Jr. formally turned over the vehicles during rites held at the City Coliseum in Tetuan yesterday as a sidelight to the orientation of the 2nd batch of Summer Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) beneficiaries. Also present were City Social Welfare Officer Francisco Barredo, City Hall Chief Executive Assistant Mario Roca and the mayor’s younger brother Joemar Lobregat.

With the distribution of the vehicles to 3 barangays yesterday, 14 out of the total 90 mainland barangays have already received their vehicles. The first 7 barangays- Taluksangay, Sibulao, Tolosa, Tagasilay, Mampang, Mangusu and Lansones received their vehicles during distribution rite held in front of City Hall last April 26 while four barangays—Vitali, Licomo, Tictapul and Tigbalabag got their vehicles during distribution held in front of the Vitali Church last May 1.

Mayor Celso Lobregat said all 90 mainland barangays will receive similar 4x4 vehicles each while the 8 island barangays will receive a multicab and pumpboat each. These transportation facilities are intended to improve mobility and ultimately accelerate public service in the barangays.

Each 4x4 vehicle costs P997, 500 while each multicab costs P290,000. The pumpboats cost P150, 000 each. Funding for the purchase of the transportation facilities is taken from the 2011 and 2012 budgets.

Mayor Lobregat has emphasized that the infrastructure projects including the transportation facilities and other services being given to the barangays are meant to help improve the delivery of services to the constituents. He vowed to continue with the implementation of the projects in fulfilment of his administration’s thrust to bring about more progress and development to the city of Zamboanga.

The distribution of the vehicles to all barangays is expected to conclude by the end of June. — Sheila Covarrubias
