An improvised incendiary bomb exploded inside the residential compound of a Sulu barangay chairman in Suterville at dawn yesterday.

Bomb experts recovered another unexploded bomb during a post blast investigation at the scene yesterday morning.

A police report disclosed that the explosion took place at the house of Alinasser Talib, a village chief of one of the barangays in Indanan, Sulu, amid heavy rains at dawn yesterday. No one was hurt, but the blast caused some damage to properties.

During the post blast investigation, bomb experts found the unexploded bomb attached to a plastic bottle filled with gasoline.

The bomb experts said the second bomb did not explode because its ignition cord attached to the blasting cap was dampened by the rain.

The recovered explosive was made of crystal bottle containing ammonium nitrate with blasting cap and ignition cord. It was sealed and attached to the plastic bottle filled with gasoline.

The bomb experts explained that the purpose of the bottle of gasoline is to ignite fire after the bottle of ammonium nitrate would explode.

Police believe the bombs were deliberately planted at the residential compound of the Talib family to harm them or burn the house.

The case was still under further investigation.
