The barangay chairman of Maasin yesterday strongly appealed to District I Congresswoman Beng Climaco to run for mayor in 2013 saying it is also the consensus of other sectors and individuals he talked with.

Misael “Doglo” Bernardo said he will support Climaco, if and when she decides to run for mayor in 2013, as she has the quality of a good leader similar to what he has seen in the late Mayor Maria Clara Lobregat.

“Aside from being a congresswoman, she is also the Deputy Speaker for Mindanao under the same party of our President”, Bernardo said adding “However running for mayor will compromise her position as deputy speaker if ever she will win, but I believe it is a matter of being Zamboangueno”.

In fairness to District II Cong. Erbie Fabian, Bernardo said, he has high respects to the solon and that he acknowledges the latter’s huge contributions to Zamboanga.

“But it is a matter of choice for me. I am praying hard for you, Cong. Beng and the people of Zamboanga likewise, to please consider running for mayor in 2013”, the Maasin chairman said.

Bernardo averred that he has high respects and admiration to Cong. Fabian for his earlier pronouncements of giving way to Cong. Climaco (if and when she decides) for the sake of friendship. It saddens him also, he said that the Erbie Fabian legacy will be temporary on hold “but it is not permanent, if he will consider not to run, he can come back and we will need him very much”. — Rey Carbonel
