Seminarian shines in ‘Golpe-Golpe’ in Cawit PDF Print E-mail

A seminarian made an impressive performance in Cong. Erbie Fabian’s Golpe-Golpe na Barangay held in Cawit last Saturday afternoon.

With a 3-0 score, Marlon De Guzman of Sta. Maria won over Rey Peejay Bation of the Datu-Puti Boxing Club in the main event of the amateur boxing presentation.

Judges voted in favor for De Guzman for his powerful punches thrown on Bation in the 3-round sparring match.

De Guzman has been participating in the amateur boxing of Fabian and veteran Broadcaster Arsenio “Rawhide” Nuevo since he was still a small boy and he consistely displayed good  potential in boxing.

De Guzman became a seminarian after high school,but continues boxing, his favorite sport.
Records show that De Guzman won several times in amateur boxing.

De Guzman is now on a vacation and is scheduled to return to the seminarythis coming June.

The bout of De Guzman and Bation was among six matches involving 12 good amateur boxers.

Cong. Fabian joined residents of Cawit in watching the fights. He also donated a pair of boxing glovesto the barangay council led by Chairman Rey Modillas, Kagawad Noning Antonio and other officials.

The amateur boxing presentation was brought to Cawit on the initiative of Antonio in coordination with Nuevo.

Antonio, who is also boxing buff,  thanked Fabian and Nuevo for their continuous project in discovering new boxers in Zamboanga City. –Dan Toribio Jr.
