The P100 million water project jointly undertaken by the City Government and the Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD) that is expected to bring water to waterless barangays is set to start soon.

This, as the PVC pipes and GI sheets purchased by the City Government have been delivered and are ready for deployment to the project site.

Mayor Celso Lobregat yesterday morning led members of the City Council, officials from the ZCWD and concerned barangays in the inspection of the pipes now stocked at a vacant lot in Pasonanca near the ZCWD treatment plant.

The pipes and the GI sheets are the city government’s counterpart in the project with funding coming from the 2011 budget.

Mayor Lobregat said the pipes will cover 5 projects worth some P100 million and these include the Patalon extension from Labuan to Patalon water project worth P2.43 million of which P2.43 million is the city government’s counterpart; construction, rehabilitation and installation of Cacao-Lapakan-Cabaluay water project worth P5.55 million with P2.63 million as the city’s counterpart; rehabilitation, improvement of Tictapul-Licomo-Vitali water system worth P10.64 million with P5.43 million as the city’s counterpart construction, rehabilitation of Mangga, Bolong-Bolong-Bungiao-Sangali water system worth P17.31 million of which P5.33 million is the city’s counterpart and the construction, rehabilitation, improvement of Dumalon-Zambales-Baluno-Capisan-Malagutay-San Roque-Calarian-Cawit-Sinunuc-Maasin water system project worth P64.86 million of which P33.74 million is the city’s counterpart.

Mayor Lobregat specifically took pride in the implementation of the    Dumalon-Zambales-Baluno-Capisan-Malagutay-San Roque-Calarian-Cawit-Sinunuc and Maasin water system project, which he said, is the biggest project with the most number of beneficiaries.

The project will benefit 604 households in Baluno; 204 households in Capisan and 229 households in Dulian-Upper Pasonanca and the same project will also improve water services in elevated areas like Calarian, Cawit, Malagutay, San Roque and Sinunuc where thousands of households will also be benefited.

The mayor said the program to assist the ZCWD in its vision to expand and improve water service to the barangays started during the time of the late Mayor Maria Clara Lobregat and that the present administration is continuing and constantly improving.

For 2012, he said, the city government will once again partner with the ZCWD for the implementation of another project covering different barangays with an amount of some P102 million.

“We are now working on another set of projects that will assist the delivery of potable water and this will be even bigger in terms of amount –this will be P102M”, the mayor told media men in an interview.

Accompanying the mayor during the inspection were Councilors Rey Candido, Abdurahman Nuno, Rudy Lim, Nonong Guingona, Luis Biel III and Rogelio
