In a bid to strengthen the political party of President Aquino and with the purpose of inculcating the ideals and principles of its past leaders like Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, Liberal Party (LP) officials inducted at least 163 members coming from the different sectors in Isabela, Basilan last Sunday.

The newly recognized party members who include barangay officials from the 45 barangays, youth leaders, farmers, fishermen, students, out of school youth and even ordinary folks took their oath before LP Vice President for Sectoral Atty. Ibarra “Bong” Malonzo.

A half-day orientation and seminar was held first for the newly inducted members including the philanthropist, businessman and former Presidential Anti-Smuggling Group (PASG) director in Isabela City,  Bobby Reynera.

LP speakers during the seminar have emphasized the role of the people in the fight against corruption mostly committed by elected officials and to carry out the ideals of the founders and previous leaders like former Presidents Manuel Roxas, Elpedio Quirino and Diosdado Macapagal in their quest for a clean and transparent system of government.

“Corruption normally starts in the grass root level. If people will start to sell their precious votes to politicians, then we expect a worse administration from those who won in the election by way of vote buying,” Malonzo stressed.

Meanwhile, Reynera said the orientation/seminar was personally requested by Isabela Chapter President Arnulfo “Bobong” Dans, a former Isabela City councilor.

“It was a fruitful and productive seminar. I presume that the attendees understood what LP top speakers wanted to convey to them. In fact, another membership seminar will be held for interested individuals who would like to see Isabela City progressing,” Reynera said.

In their initial talks, Reynera said that Dans wants to relinquish its position in favor of him (Reynera) as soon as the re-organization takes place anytime this year.

Last Sunday, an  LP activity was held at the famous White Beach Resort in Malamawi Island, which is managed by Reynera. — Jimmy Villaflores
