In celebration of PhilRice’s 25th anniversary, the Institute honored its benefactors through the Benefactors' Garden set-up in the Institute’s Central Experiment Station in  Maligaya, Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija.

Patterned after the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Garden included the names of persons and logos of agencies that helped PhilRice especially during its shaping years. Benefactors’ names, encapsulated in a green palay grain shape, were etched on the floors of PhilRice atrium.
Among of the famous names celebrated in the Garden include Sen. Edgardo J. Angara; Dr. Moncompu S. Swaminathan, former Director General of the International Rice Research Institute; Ramon V. Mitra, Jr and Carlos G. Dominguez, former ministers of Agriculture and Food; and Dr. Hitoshi Takahashi, team leader of the first and second phases of PhilRice-Japan International Cooperating Agency technical cooperation project.

“With the help of our benefactors, PhilRice delivered significant outputs such as new rice varieties that help farmers increase their yield and profits, and improve their lives. This small gesture of immortalizing their names in our atrium is our modest way of thanking them for their contributions,” Executive Director Ronilo A. Beronio, who led the ribbon cutting of the Garden’s ceremonial opening, said.

DA-PhilRice is a government-owned and-controlled corporation that aims at developing high-yielding and cost-reducing technologies so farmers can produce enough rice for all Filipinos.
