Stakeholders of Zamboanga City will get their turn to exchange views anew with members of the government panel currently negotiating a peace settlement with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF)  in a multisectoral  forum to be held in the city in the morning of Friday, May 18 at Lantaka Hotel.

Peace Secretary Teresita Deles will head a government team that will explain the significance of the “Decision Points on Principles” signed by the two parties during the 27th formal exploratory talks held April 24 in Kuala Lumpur.  In its wake, strong local apprehensions have been raised again that parts of the city will be placed under the envisioned new regional autonomous entity.

The local Inter-Religious Solidarity Movement for Peace (IRSMP) was tapped by the Office of the Presidential on the Peace Process (OPPAP) to organize and facilitate the forum, whose attendance is limited to selected stakeholders and set to start at 10:00 AM.

The “Decision Points” prescribes the discussion guide posts of future negotiated settlement by the MILF  and government.  Friday’s public forum will clarify  the finer points and nuances of that interim agreement. — Peace Advocates Zamboanga
