Mayor Celso Lobregat on Saturday formally launched the official ‘Zamboanga Hermosa’ video arranged and produced by the City Government, which will henceforth be the required video in all activities both in government and private institutions.

The official video can be downloaded through the City Government website www.zamboanga.gov.ph as well as in you tube. The city government will also produce cd copies of the video for distribution to different agencies, schools and other institutions.

It is recalled that Mayor Lobregat has issued Executive Order (EO) CL-66-2005 declaring as mandatory the singing of the Zamboanga Hermosa during flag raising ceremonies as part of the city’s continuing effort to preserve, restore, promote, propagate and strengthen Chabacano as the lingua franca of Zamboanga.

The order, issued on October 19, 2005 also directs all chiefs of regional and national government offices, presidents of private and state colleges and universities, principals of public and private elementary and high schools, school division superintendents, and the 98 Barangay Councils based in the city to implement the order in their respective area of responsibility.

The launching of the Zamboanga Hermosa official video coincided with the launching of the DOT branding “It’s more fun in Zamboanga” and the presentation of cultural dances at the Fort Pilar courtyard Saturday night.

Mayor Lobregat during the launching observed that various groups and individuals have initiated their own version of the Zamboanga Hermosa video but most are not apt or fitting with the lyrics of the song. “Many people have done it on their own initiative and we thank them for their efforts”.

The official video of the Zamboanga Hermosa hymn, Mayor Lobregat emphasized, mirrors the true essence of Zamboanga, now known as Asia’s Latin City. “Mucho cosas tiene y puede ofrece el Zamboanga. We should show the many beautiful things and places –de antes y de ahora”.

He urged all agencies, schools, colleges and universities and other institutions or associations—government or private—to utilize the official video for their different activities.

Zamboanga Hermosa, the city’s hymn, speaks of the beauty of Zamboanga. The lyrics are written by Zamboangueno writer and poet Antonio Orendain.
The launching of the DOT branding and the Zamboanga Hermosa official video was preceded by the successful Fiesta Engrande, an extravaganza of old
games at the Paseo del Mar—all forming part of the 2012 Zamboanga Summer Festival.

The launching at the Fort Pilar courtyard was highlighted by the DOT-initiated presentation of cultural dances or the so-called bailes de antes, which are reflective of Zamboanga’s culture and beginnings.

Present during the event at the courtyard were DOT Regional Director Maryjune Bugante, 530th Air Base Wing Commander Col. Emeraldo Magnaye, Councilor Rudy Lim, the mayor’s younger brother Jomar and other head of government agencies and institutions. — Sheila Covarrubias
