A total of 287 families took shelters in safer areas as members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) clashed in Sitio Misalan, Barangay Tonganon, Carmen, Cotabato Friday, leaving several of the combatants wounded.

The displaced families are sheltering at Barangays Lawili and New Panay, both of Aleosan, North Cotabato.
Col. Prudencio Asto, 6th Infantry Division spokesperson, said that encounter took place around 6 a.m.

The firefight took place when troopers of Commander “Karim” and Commander “Tarzan” of the MILF’s 110th Base Command crossed paths with the group of Commander Teo Manimbong of the MNLF.

Asto said the battle lasted for one hour until the peacekeeping force of 7th Infantry Division arrived.

He added that they were still monitoring the area and determining what triggered the firefight between the two groups.
