Zambo boy, 8 others bag gold in reg’l taekwondo tilt PDF Print E-mail

A six-year-old boy and six others stood out in the just concluded 1st Regional 2012 New Face Taekwondo Championship dubbed as “2nd SK Invitational Tournament” held in Pagadian City last May 19 by bringing home seven gold medals to capture the over-all title of the event.

Benjamin Jedrik V. “BJ” Cabato, an incoming Grade 1 pupil of Puriculture Center Elementary School, and six-year-old son of Reeno Cabato and Cherry Cabato of J. Estrada St., Tetuan, this city, dominated the Group 0 category of the children division for boys.

The young Cabato was part of the 18-man taekwondo team from Zamboanga that bagged the over-all championship of the tournament organized by the Pagadian Taekwondo Parents Association in coordination with SK Federation of Pagadian headed by its President Lance Samuel F. Co.

Like BJ Cabato, who pinched in one gold medal from the zero category, other team players also reaped six more gold medals, five silver medals and three bronze medals to make the Zamboanga team the over-all champion of the tournament.

The other gold medalists were Faust Robert Alvarez, Maura Christine “March” delos Reyes, RJ Quiaoit, Brandon Recinto, Adriane Kyle Faustino, and Jophn Romar Arboiz.

The silver medalists were Jahiddin Handang, Edwino Marquez Jr., Jelsea Arboiz, Rhalp John “RJ” Buquis and Trisha Faye Domingo, while the bronze medalists were Sharmina F. Handang, Nel Andriane Enad and Raniel Dexter Buquis.

Leading the team were coaches Emmanuel Flores, Robert Flores, Cesar Oliver Barcillios and Benzar Tingkahan with Virgie F. Handang as the coordinator.
Meanwhile, Handang thanked Mayor Celso Lobregat for assisting the team in going to Pagadian City for the competition.— Vic Larato
