The anticipation is peaking up for 2012 Festival de las Bellas y Flores as 8 of Zamboanga’s best homegrown fashion designers battle it out in a contest of creativity, beauty and artistic ingenuity.

Now on its 10th year, the 3-component competition spells out the uniqueness of Zamboanga’s adaptation of the traditional Flores de Mayo while serving as an avenue for professional and up-and-coming local couturiers.

For this year, the contestants are Ramon “Monching”Fernandez, Frederick Rodriguez, Nilo Lacson, Joy Verar, Frederico Navarro, Jocquen Mar Sumaoang, Elmer Julian and Olivia Sanson.

Each designer must have a señorita to serve as model for their creation. These models will also be judged according to criteria and one of them will be crowned as the Prettiest Señorita.

The Festival delas Bellas y Flores is the concluding event of the 2012 Summer Festival which the City Government of Zamboanga had dynamically been organizing for a decade now.

Mayor Celso Lobregat has always been supportive to the tourism programs in the City, especially those events that bring out the best of the Zamboangueño tradition.

Last May 19, 2012 Lobregat launched the official Zamboanga Hermosa video during the Fiesta Engrande of the Department of Tourism 9.

Festival de las Bellas y Flores is one of the fitting events that bring out the best and beautiful of Zamboanga City as expressed in the city’s renowned hymn-the Zamboanga Hermosa. — Richard Aliangan
