A wanted man was wounded in a shootout after he opened fire on policemen who was about to arrest him in Sta. Maria last Wednesday night.
Police identified the suspect as Christopher Barado, of Alvarez Drive, Mampang. He sustained a bullet wound in the back.

A police report disclosed that men of the Zamboanga City Public Safety Company led by Sr. Insp. Jade Gultiano Mandi under the supervision of Supt. William Gadayan, were about to serve a warrant of arrest on Barado. They spotted him aboard a Toyota Innova SUV traveling along Talon-Talon road around 7:45 p.m.

The lawmen tailed him until they reached Gov. Ramos Avenue in Sta. Maria where Barado alighted from the vehicle and walked towards a small alley.

Policemen chased him and tried to serve the warrant of arrest issued by Judge Gregorio Dela Peña of the Regional Trial Court Branch 12, but Barado suddenly pulled out a handgun and opened fire on the lawmen, who returned fire triggering an exchange of gunfire. Barado was later found by the police hiding in the dark, with a bullet wound in the body.

Police said that Barado was already unarmed when he was arrested.

Barado was taken to the hospital for treatment and was later placed under police custody pending his turnover to the court. – Dan Toribio Jr.
