Operatives of the City Police Office's Women and Children Desk led by Sr. Insp. Gemma Luna under the supervision of City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin Deocampo arrested two suspected illegal recruiters and rescued seven victims in a hot pursuit operation that started last Monday and continued until dawn yesterday.

Deocampo identified those arrested as Rosemarie Ventura and Isa Mahader, both residents of Villa, Sta. Maria. The victims were all women and residents of South Cotabato.

Police operatives led by Luna had received an information about four women about to board a vessel bound for Malaysia with the report that they were illegally recruited.

Luna and her team rushed to the port and rescued the four women.

During interrogation, the four women told the police that aside from them, there were three others who were recruited to leave for Malaysia and were temporarily staying in Villa, Sta. Maria.

An entrapment operation was set at a downtown mall few hours after the rescue of the four women, but the suspects sensed the trap and did not show up.

Another entrapment operation was set at a pension house, but the suspects managed to escape.

At dawn yesterday, the same team raided a house in Villa, Sta. Maria and arrested Ventura and Mahader.  The three other victims were rescued.

Luna said the victims were recruited by a certain Rex Belloga who brought them here and handed them over to Ventura and Mahader.

Aside from Ventura and Mahader, three other suspects eluded arrest.

Luna said that the suspects recruited the victims and promised them jobs in Malaysia.

The victims were all set to leave for Malaysia with no travel and working documents as mandated under the law when they were intercepted. They told the police they did not pay any single centavo to the suspects with whom they agreed to come on a "fly now, pay later" scheme.

Luna said that the suspects will be brought today to the City Prosecutor Office for inquest.
