City gives out P450T cash incentives to 336 athletes PDF Print E-mail

In a bid to encourage the youth to engage in sports, Mayor Celso Lobregat personally distributed the city government’s cash incentives amounting to P450,400 to 336 athletes and coaches who reaped medals from the Zamboanga Peninsula Regional Athletic Association (ZPRAA) Meet held in Dapitan City last March 8-17, this year.

Zamboanga City’s delegation of 321 athletes from elementary and secondary schools and their coaches captured the over-all championship of ZPRAA 2012, which entitled them to cash incentives of P1,000 for every gold medal, P700 for silver medal and P500 for bronze medal.

City Sports Division Chief Bernardito Pantiño said Zamboanga City harvested a total of 280 gold medals from arnis boys, athletics boys and girls, badminton, basketball, boxing, chess boys and girls, football, swimming boys/girls, table tennis boys, taekwondo boys/girls, and tennis boys/girls.

The delegation also reaped a total of 145 silver medals and 115 bronze medals.

Similar incentives were also extended to 15 college athletes and coaches, who also excelled in the Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) National Games held in Cebu City last April 22-28.

The college athletes netted 4 gold medals, 7 silver and 5 bronze.

Assisting the mayor in the distribution of cash incentives were City Hall Chief Executive Assistant Mario Roca, Patiño and City Treasurer’s Office staff. — Vic Larato
