HPG man shot to death in Sibugay; gunman arrested PDF Print E-mail

A policeman of the Highway Patrol Group was shot dead by a gunman in Titay, Zamboanga Sibugay yesterday morning.

Killed was SPO4 Edwin Ocupe of the Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay HPG unit.

A sketchy report disclosed that Ocupe and some colleagues were manning a checkpoint at Purok Gumamela, Barangay Katubig, Titay around 8 a.m. when a gunman appeared and shot him.

The victim sustained a bullet wound in the head and was rushed to the De Villa hospital by his colleagues. He expired few minutes later.

Report said the gunman sped away north after the incident. A hot pursuit operation was mounted by the Titay police and other law enforcement units that led to the arrest of two suspects who were identified as Ric Tuden and Rolando Tuden.

Recovered from their possession was a 9 mm pistol.

Further investigation disclosed that the two suspects were stopped at the checkpoint for road and traffic violation. A heated argument broke out  during which Ocupe was shot. — Dan Toribio Jr.
