The service vehicle of the Isabela City vice mayor and of the Philippine National Red Cross were damaged in a powerful explosion in a roadside bomb attack near the house of Mayor Cherry Akbar at noon yesterday.

A report received by Daily Zamboanga Times disclosed that Vice Mayor Abdulbaki Ajibun was on his way home after attending the City Council regular session when a motorcycle parked along the road at Manopol near Akbar’s house exploded.

A service of the PNRC was also passing along the road and was hit by shrapnels.

Ajibun and his companions aboard their vehicle wereunhurt in the explosion but their vehicle was damaged.

Ajibun believed that he was the target of the bomb attack as it exploded while he was passing the place.

Bomb experts gathered some pieces of evidence at the blast site to determine what kind of explosive used in the attack and possibly identify the perpetrator or perpetrators.

Authorities were not discounting the possibility that the Abu Sayyaf Group was behind the attack. – Dan Toribio Jr.
