A security guard was killed while a lotto bettor was wounded in a gun attack staged by two suspected gun snatchers along Gov. Ramos Avenue, Sta. Maria last Tuesday night.

The killers took the M16 rifle issued to the slain security guard.

Police identified the fatality as Alfredo Samorin, detailed at the 737 Building and a resident of Cabatangan. Wounded was Melchor Pancho of Sta. Maria.

A police report disclosed that Samorin was on his post at a lotto outlet around 8:45 p.m. when two men riding tandem on a motorcycle and wearing full-face helmets appeared.  and the backrider shot him several times.

Pancho who was buying a lotto ticket was also hit by stray bullets.

Police said that when Samorin collapsed on the ground, the gunman alighted from the motorcycle and took his armalite rifle,  then fled with his companion aboard the motorcycle.

Another version of the incident said one of the assailants first grabbed the guard’s armalite rifle and then used it to shoot him,  while his companion served as look-out.

Samorin was rushed to the Zamboanga City Medical Center, while Pancho was taken to the Western Mindanao Medical Center.

Samorin was declared dead on arrival due to fatal gunshot wounds in the head.
