Philippine Navy units assigned to the Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM) intercepted a motor launch carrying 184 human trafficking victims during operations five nautical miles off Barangay Ayala, this city late Monday night.

Col. Omar Tonsay, PN spokesperson, said the M/L Kadrina’s interception took place around 11 p.m.

Tonsay said the Philippine Army and Air Force units also helped in the operation.

Tonsay said the vessel was headed for the direction of Sandakan, Malaysia when caught by PN units operating off the area.

The 184 human trafficking victims, mostly women, transported by the vessel were immediately taken to the Majini Pier, NFWM headquarters, Zamboanga City along with the 19 crewmen of the vessel.

Investigations are now being conducted by the Department of Social Welfare and Development and its attached agencies, and affiliate non-government organizations to determine who masterminded the scheme.
