Mayor Celso  Lobregat the other day revealed that construction of the proposed Limaong bridge which will connect Limaong to Tictapul in the east coast will start anytime soon.

Based on an agreement with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the national government will supply the bridge/ steel structures while the city government will take care of the civil works, according to Mayor Lobregat.

“The materials have already been delivered by the DPWH”, the mayor told reporters in an interview during the inauguration of road concreting projects in Vitali the other day. “Construction will start this year”.

The Limaong bridge project is expected to be one of the flagship projects of the city government under the Lobregat administration. In fact, it was included in the mayor’s state of the city report before the City Council last January.

A funding of over P100 million is included in the 2011 budget.

Mayor Lobregat has emphasized that the project will be another testimony of the strong partnership between the national government and the local government, as it will be a joint undertaking of the city government and the Department of Public Works and Highways.

The chief executive has made representations with DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson with the request that the national government help fund various infrastructure projects of the city specifically the construction of the Limaong bridge.

The project’s design was prepared by the DWPH, as the city government has no capacity to make designs for such a huge and long bridge. Bidding of the project has likewise been completed. — Sheila Covarrubias
