Education Undersecretary for Programs and Projects Yolanda Quijano over the weekend highly acknowledged the Lobregat administration’s vision for education stressing that the city government’s assistance to education is unmatched and unequalled.

Touring various public where the local government unit constructed school buildings and other education-related projects Saturday afternoon, Undersecretary Quijano had only but praises for Mayor Celso Lobregat and the other city officials for putting high premium on education.

The DepEd official thanked Mayor Lobregat, members of the City Council and other city officials for the support to the education sector on aspects where the Department of Education cannot fully provide and comply.

She described Mayor Lobregat as somebody who has the vision and noble intentions to see to it that the present generation will have a better future.

Usec. Quijano together with Lobregat, Councilors Rudy Lim, Percival Ramos and nonong Guingona, City Schools OIC Superintendent Pedro Natividad and City Schools Supervisor I for Social Studies Dr. Maybelle Tee and other school offiicals visited Zamboanga City High Schol-main in Tetuan, the Talon-talon National High School and the Talon-talon Elementary School to look at the school buildings and other infrastructures constructed by the local government unit to help solve classroom shortage and ultimately improve quality of education.

Earlier during late lunch at a restaurant in Tetuan, the mayor briefed the education official on the city’s best practices in education citing the massive and sustained investment in education which todate, reaches over a billion peso mark to include appropriation from the Special Education Fund and the general fund.

As this developed, Usec. Quijano called on Zamboanga City teachers, principals and DEPED officials to reciprocate the city’s generosity and good intentions with efficient, effective and result-oriented education program for the children.

— Sheila Covarrubias
