A meat businessman was shot dead by gunmen in Centro, Vitali at dawn yesterday.

PO2 Herbert Tan, case investigator, identified the fatality as Geronimo Gonzales Sr., 59, married. He ran a small-time slaughter house in Vitali.

Tan said Gonzales absorbed several bullets in the body and was taken to the Vitali Lying-in hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Initial investigation disclosed that Gonzales was sleeping inside their house around 2 a.m. when an unidentified man arrived and greeted loudly,  “buenas!”

Gonzales went out of the house and opened the gate but suddenly bursts of gunfire jolted other occupants of the house and some neighbors.

Gonzales’ relatives rushed to the scene and found him wounded on the ground.

Tan said they recovered five spent shells of 9mm pistol at the crime scene.

Men of the Vitali police station are still investigating the case and trying to establish the identities of the killers. — Dan Toribio Jr.
