Zamboanga Sibugay Governor Rommel A. Jalosjos personally thanked Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo who handed to him P7 million in check for  disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation for the province

The amount came from the DILG Performance Challenge Funds and its turnover was held yesterday during the “Tapatan on Disaster Preparedness and Climate Change Adaptation Zamboanga Peninsula” a gathering of local leaders at the Astoria Plaza, Grand Astoria Hotel, Zamboanga City

Some municipalities of Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga del Norte also received funds from the DILG amounting to P1 million for disaster preparedness. They are towns that are prone to natural disasters like Ipil, Tungawan, Buug, Titay, Sergio Osmeña and Roxas.

“We all know that we may not be able to prevent future occurrence of calamities and disasters. And being prepared is still the best remedy for this. We have seen and heard in the media what happened in Cagayan de Oro  and Iligan Cities last December. We should not take for granted the importance of being disaster-ready to prevent loss of lives and properties,” said Robredo during the gathering.

Gov. Jalosjos for his part urged all leaders of Zamboanga Peninsula to synchronize all efforts to to ready to face disasters and come up with solutions to save lives and properties.

“Climate change is an act of God. For the future of our socio-economic life, together let us save Mother Earth,” Jalosjos said.

The gathering was attended by all municipal and city mayors and governors  and the Police Regional Office 9 officers led by Director Chief Supt. Napoleon R. Estilles, Philippine Marines with Brig.
