Gunmen raided a village killing four people and wounding one in Dinas, Zamboanga del Sur last Friday night.

Police Regional Office-9 Director Chief Supt. Napoleon Estilles identified the fatalities as Eliodoro Doong, Meraljun Doong, Danilo Zamora and Andi Minoc. Wounded was Rodel Doong. All are residents of Barangay Guiniculaly, Dinas municipality.

A sketchy police report disclosed that the gunmen swooped down on Barangay Guiniculaly around 6 p.m. and opened fire on the residents without any word.

The gunmen, whose identities were still unknown, left the place after shooting the residents.

Estilles disclosed that men from the Dinas Municipal Police Station, PPSC, 2nd Mobile Company, RPSB 9 and troops from the Army’s 53rd Infantry Battalion mounted a hot pursuit operation against the attackers, while other forces put up checkpoints on all possible exit points.

Police were looking at land dispute as one possible motive behind the attack.

The local government unit of Dinas and thepolice have activated SITG “Dinas”   with the purpose of giving  due justice to the victims.

Moreover, the LGU has also made coordination and agreement with the Army’s 53rd IB to establish detachment with the PNP in Barangay Nian, Dinas, where relatives of the victims are mostly residing in anticipation of any possible escalation of the dispute and to preempt any act of retaliation from the victims’ relatives. — Dan Toribio Jr.
