A suspected grenade was lobbed inside the house of the Mla family in Barangay Labu-labu, Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao around 7pm last night, killing a 2-year old boy and wounding three other minor siblings and his mother, a military official said.

Col. Mayoralgo dela Cruz, commander of the 1st Mechanized Brigade said the explosion took place during a power outage and while his troops were conducting foot patrol.

The two-year old fatality was identified as Jayhar Mla.

His mother Sarabia, 30, sisters Shahame, 7, and Shaynalyn, 8, and brother Shabudin, 9, were severely wounded.

The soldiers immediately responded and rushed the victims to the Maguindanao Provincial Hospital in the same town, dela Cruz said.

But the victims were recommended to be transferred to the Cotabato Regional Medical Center for intensive treatment, according to provincial police director Senior Supt. Marcelo Pintac.

Police are still investigating the motive of the crime.
