The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Regional Office-9 is holding a three-day Entrepreneurship Development Training (EDT) from June 25 to 27, 2012, at Cecille’s Catering and Pension House.

Some of the participants are from Isabela, Basilan, Sibugay and from this city.

OWWA Regional Director Hassan Gabra Jumdain said the objective of the training is for the reintegration program which is a regular program of OWWA in coordination with the National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO) and the institutional partners with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).

“This is to train our people particularly their dependents into a successful entrepreneurship,” Jumdain said.

OWWA also conducted the same program in Pagadian City last June 20 to 23, 2012.

The three-day training is a requirement to avail loan assistance from OWWA, LBP and its institutional partners.

“They have to undergo training so that we’ll be able to know what kind of business they intend to venture,” Jumdain emphasized.

He said most of the participants would like to venture in rubber plantation, abaca, seaweeds and different merchandising business.

The occasion started with a program followed by training proper with resource persons from DTI Division Chief Engr. Al-Zamir Lipae and DTI Specialist Rovie Manzanares, presented topics and insights on Marketing strategy, Champion products in Region IX and preparation of business plan.

Today, the organizer will present business plan workshop and on Wednesday. The topic will be on seaweeds production and processing with BFAR Regional Director Ahadulla Sajili.    Zamboanga Lending Unit/LBP Manager Roel Tarroza and NCRO Head Director Vivian Tornea are resource persons. It will be followed by the awarding ceremonies with Director Tornea and Director Jumdain.

Jumdain said OWWA is open to help, train and endorse them (OFW) to LBP for evaluation on their business ventures.

“It’s the program of the President to reintegrate back our OFW to the main stream of Philippine society so that they’ll not go back to abroad. Why go out and work abroad? At least here they will become a boss of their own and not to be separated with their love ones and family,” Jumdain concluded. — MLF
