Lamitan City formally opened its 29th Lami-Lamihan Festival yesterday with a parade and formal program at Datu Dizal Cultural Center.

he festival celebration started on June 23  and will continue until June 29 carrying the theme,  “Getting Better Through Preservation  of Culture              Despite of Obstacle”.

Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao OIC Governor Mujiv Hataman commended Mayor Roderick H. Furigay for his good leadership in taking Lamitan City to progress and development.

Furigay has received a “Seal of Excellence” award from the Civil Service  Commission for his good leadership.

Hataman told the people of Lamitan that President Noynoy Aquino has allocated funds amounting to P 300 million for the completion of the circumferential road of Basilan province. Aside for the concreting of all roads connecting the different municipalities, the funds will also be for the port development in coastal municipalities, improvement of  the Bulingan Waterfalls and other tourism sites of the province.

Another amount pf P4 million was allocated for the development of Yakan handmade weaving to promote the province’s rich cultural heritage.

Hataman said that in his meeting with Education Secretary Armin Luistro, it was discussed that all school projects in the province  will be provided with water facilities and comfort rooms for the convenience of the schoolers and teachers.

Basilan Vice  Governor Al-Rasheed Sakkalahul thanked Hataman for his efforts to complete the circumferential road.

“It is the dream of every Basileño that the roads of Basilan will all be concreted,” Sakkalahul said. —  Allen Abastillas
