Akbar lauds Furigay for successful Lami-Lamihan PDF Print E-mail

Basilan Gov. Jum Akbar yesterday urged the Lamiteños to help preserve their rich customs and traditions as she extended her warm greetings to Lamiteños, who are celebrating the week-long 29th Lami-Lamihan Festival.

Akbar made the call and extended her felicitations as the Lami-Lamihan will culminate today the highlight of which is the feast of Lamitan City in honor of its patron, Saint Peter.

This year’s Lami-Lamihan festival is themed “Getting better through preservation of culture despite the obstacles.”

“I enjoin everyone to join hands and help preserve rich customs and traditions Lamitan City that we could pass on to our children’s children,” Akbar said.

Lami-Lamihan, which means merry making, showcases the traditional Yakan rich customs and traditions which Lamitan has thrived for years in accordance to such customs and traditions.

Akbar noted that the different activities of the Lami-Lamihan Festival have become a crowd drawer as it attracts visitors not only from the province but also in the region.

The centerpiece of the celebration is the preservation of the rich cultural traditions of the Yakans.

Meanwhile, Akbar lauded the officialdom of Lamitan City headed by Mayor Roderick Furigay as well as the tourism council chaired by Furigay’s wife, Rose, for the successful celebration of Lami-Lamihan.
