House Deputy Speaker and District 1 Representative Beng Climaco Wednesday spearheaded the groundbreaking of a P6 million  park in her birth place Sta. Maria, dubbed as “Parque de Sta. Maria” intended to be a “parque de los ancianos y los niños”.

“Ta dedica con el memoria de Sra. Adelaida Lacandalo y todos los oficiales de barangay,” the congresswoman said referring to the first woman chieftain of the barangay and mother of incumbent chairman Justo Lacandalo.

The same project is dedicated to other barangay leaders who include Pedro Lacandalo, Leandro Esperat, Ramon Lacandalo, Antonio Fernando, Felix Lacandalo, Felizardo de las Peñas, Vicente de los Reyes and Justo Lacandalo.

The project is being undertaken through the initiative of Cong. Climaco with the cooperation and support of Sta. Maria barangay chairman Lacandalo members of the barangay council and the city government of Zamboanga.

It will cost P6 million to be taken from the congresswoman’s priority development assistance fund (PDAF).

The undertaking, according to the lady solon, forms part of her office’s program to look after the interest and welfare of not only of the young children but the senior citizens.

The proposed Parque de Sta. Maria is located at the vacant lot near the Bahay Bulilit day care center and in front of the main gate of the Edwin Andrews Air Base (EAAB) in Sta. Maria.

The project’s groundbreaking ceremony was highlighted by Cong. Climaco’s declaration to run for mayor in the 2013 local elections which was warmly welcomed by those present that included barangay officials from both east and west coasts of the city, leaders and representatives from various sectors as well as city officials and her family members.

Assisting Cong. Climaco during the groundbreaking rite were Mayor Celso Lobregat, Vice Mayor Cesar Iturralde, Councilors Mike Alavar, Percival Ramos, Nonong Guingona, Eddie Saavedra and Rogelio Valesco Jr., Zamcelco Board president Bong Atilano, the mayor’s younger brother Jomar, barangay officials of Sta.
