Twenty five out-of-school-youth from three barangays in the city’s west coast are currently undergoing a one-month Marine Diesel Mechanic training course being held at the Mega Fishing Corporation in Cawit.

The training course is a project of the Technical Education and Skill Development Authority (TESDA), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and Mega Fishing Corp.

Trifon Macarayan, business development manager of  Mega Fishing Corp., said the participants/trainees came from the barangays of Ayala, Cawit and Talisayan. Some of them are employees of their company.

Participants were evaluated properly by their respective barangay officials before they were recommended to join the training.

Macarayan said that trainers are from TESDA who teach the trainees all about marine diesel mechanic works.  Those who will complete the month-long training will be given certificate of competency and they can use it to look for a job aboard vessel.

Macarayan also said it is the first time for the company to come up  with such program in coordination with the TESDA and DOLE. It s part of the government’s Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) program.

No less than TESDA Regional Director Lorenzo Macapili and Virginia Bonbon, DOLE assistant director, graced the opening of the training and led the signing of the memorandum of agreement with MFC official headed by Macarayan. – Dan Toribio Jr.
