Heartened and gratified for the honor bestowed on him by the Philippine Air Force as Reservist of the Year, Mayor Celso Lobregat yesterday vowed to be unyielding in his commitment to help improve services of the Air Reserve Command and the Philippine Air Force as a whole.

“I share this award and honor to the 61st Air Reserve Group”, the mayor, who has the rank of a Lieutenant Colonel and commanding officer of the 61st Air Reserve Group based at the Edwin Andrews Air Base (EAAB) in Sta. Maria said after personally receiving the plaque of recognition from Philippine Air Force Commanding General LGen. Lauro Catalino de la Cruz, Monday, during the PAF’s celebration of its 65th Founding Anniversary at the Villamor Air Base in Pasay City.

He asserted that without the support and assistance of the other officers and members of the 61st Air Reserve Group, he would not have been able to accomplish all the projects and programs for which he was awarded.

The other officials of the 61st Air Force Reserve Group are Lt. Col. Basilio Remegia, Jr. is the deputy commander; Capt. Ruben Ho-the operations officer and Capt. Wilfrido Acosta-wing administrative officer.

Mayor Lobregat thanked Lt. Gen. De la Cruz for bestowing on him the honor out of the thousands of reservists from all over the country saying it inspires him to initiate more projects and programs for the reservists and the entire community of Zamboanga.

Among the projects and undertakings of the 61st Air Force Reserve Group under Lobregat’s command were civic actions or medical missions, tree planting and blood letting activities, sponsorship of mass wedding and numerous others. On going at present is the unit active duty training .

The 61st Air Force Reserve Group is composed of graduates of Citizens’ military training and some retirees. It falls under the 6th Air Force Reserve Center under the leadership of Lt. Col. Jose Victor Vargas, Jr.

A bulk of Mayor Lobregat’s contributions to the Air Reserve Command and the PAF are the almost P8 million worth of infrastructure projects that include road concreting and drainage systems and the multi-purpose gazebo for the 6th ARCEN inside the EAAB.

In 2011, Lobregat was also awarded by the Air Force Reserve Command the InStep Award for Professionalism or the Reservist Officer of the Year also in the entire country for his meritorious contributions to the Reserve Group. — Sheila Covarrubias
