4 arrested in anti-illegal logging raid in Labuan PDF Print E-mail

The Anti-Illegal Logging Task Force composed of troopers of the Zamboanga City Public Safety Company under Supt. William Gadayan, personnel of the Philippine Navy and agents of the National Bureau of Investigation arrested four persons including a woman during a raid in Labuan last Monday night.

Gadayan said that his team led by Insp. Alan Perpetua with the Philippine Navy headed by Marines Col. Elmer Estilles and some NBI agents swooped down
in Labuan around 11 p.m. after they receiving a report on the alleged presence of illegally cut yakal lumber and some loggers in the area.

When the task force arrived in Labuan, they caught a Canter truck loaded with illegally-cut yakal lumber

The lawmen arrested Jumadil Adjaluddin, 43, Abser Jaji, 51, (truck driver), Hja. Juraya Hamjay, 52, (truck owner), all residents of Sta. Catalina and
Midzfar Alibasa, 21, of Veterans Avenue, this city.

It was learned that the cut lumber and the truck were turned to the Naval Force for Western Mindanao while the suspects were placed under investigation.
Gadayan disclosed that a case of violation of Presidential Decree No. 705 as amended by Executive Order 277 will be filed against the suspects.

The task force is active in the campaign against illegal cutting of trees in Zamboanga City.

Recently, the task force stopped the illegal logging activities  in two sitios in the city’s east coast and arrested three illegal loggers. – Dan Toribio Jr.
