Beng gives cellphones to District 1 barangays PDF Print E-mail

Thirty-seven brand new mobile phones were given to all barangays in District 1 the other day as part of Cong. Beng Climaco’s continuing advocacy on Barangay Emergency Enhancement Network Group (BENG), a program which was officially launched last year.
The distribution was held during the consultation-orientation that Climaco initiated for all newly-installed District I barangay officials Friday afternoon, Dec. 3.
The cellphones, with initial P300 worth of load each, are intended to make communication accessible especially in times of emergency.
Last year, the lady solon distributed 37 L300 passenger-jeepney type vehicles to all the 37 barangays also under the BENG program.
BENG, an initiative of the Office of Cong. Climaco, helps address the security and disaster preparedness concerns at the barangay level.  
Aside from the communication facilities, Climaco likewise gave out office supplies for the new barangay officials.
The meeting-consultation, which is in line with the congresswoman’s thrust on participatory governance, also sought to orient the new barangay officials on District I operations. Representatives from gencies that work closely with the Congressional office such as the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and Philhealth Corporation were also present to answer concerns raised by the barangay officials.
Climaco said the provision of these communication facilities including the vehicles is one way of equipping  barangay officials in making sure that they can help their constituents in emergency situations in their respective areas of responsibilities.
With communication and transportation facilities available, she stressed that emergency response will be immediate and danger risks will be lowered.
She stressed: “This too will likewise enable our barangays in District 1 to support the program of our city government in terms of mobilization and active participation in various endeavors that our LGU will undertake”.
