Nat’l Disaster Consciousness Month activities set PDF Print E-mail

The Department of Social Welfare and Development Regional Office-9 (DSWD-9) has set various activities in line with the commemoration of the National Disaster Consciousness Month for this month.

Social Welfare Officer IV Elizabeth Dy said that the agency has its fair share in conducting activities together with the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (RDMMC) and the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD), the agencies assigned in the said celebration.

She further revealed the schedule of activities to be conducted in the different centers and institutions of DSWD which includes the following:

The briefing and orientation on Drill Simulation will precede the actual drilling on earthquakes, tsunamis and fires on July 5 at the Home for the Women in Barangay San Roque.   Similar activities will also be conducted in DSWD-9 Regional Office located at the Gen. Vicente Alvarez St., this city, on July 9; in various DSWD centers and institutions in the city such as the Reception and Study Center for Children (RSCC) and Home for the Elderly in Barangay Talon-talon and the Processing Center for the Displaced persons (PCDP) in Barangay Mampang on July 16; DSWD satellite office in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay on July 17-20; Home for the Elderly on July 23 and in the DSWD satellite office in Pagadian City, Zamboanga Del Sur on July 24-27.

According to Dy, these activities will help the employees prepare themselves before, during and after the occurrences of various disasters.

“Disiplina at dasal ang kailangan para ma-prevent natin ang mga calamities na ito,” she expressed as to how we can prevent these disasters from yielding raging results.

A kick-off program highlighted by the hanging of the streamer commenced the celebration which was made simultaneously for the entire region last July 1.
A motorcade from Pasonanca Parish Church to Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (Zamcelco) as well as a blood-letting activity initiated by the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) was conducted last July 2  with  OCD hosting the program in the venue’s activity hall.
